Most failed houseplants don't die from neglect — they die from too much good intent, usually in the form of too much water. A few species reliably forgive that.

Snake plant (Sansevieria) tops nearly every 'indestructible' list. Low light, water once every two weeks, done.

ZZ plant (Zamioculcas) does remarkably well in dim corners where nothing else wants to grow. Only water once the soil has gone completely dry.

Pothos is happy trailing off a bookshelf or high shelf, grows quickly, and tells you clearly with drooping leaves when it needs water.

For anyone genuinely short on time: one large plant that thrives almost always looks calmer than five small ones in various states of struggle.
